Steven Wooddell is an organist pianist and music technology enthusiast living in Rome, Georgia. He grew up in Roanoke, Virginia and studied piano and organ. He eventually wound up playing for local churches and along the way decided that he wanted to be a musician. He was given the opportunity to finish high school at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston Salem North Carolina where he studied organ with Dr. John Mueller. From there he moved to Cleveland, Ohio to continue studying organ with Todd Wilson at the Cleveland Institute of Music.
Needing a break after 6 years of music school he went to Sewanee, Tennessee. Sewanee was a beautiful place and a welcome break from the weather in Cleveland. He did a three year internship where he played for the university choir and for daily services at the Episcopal seminary there. While at Sewanee he also met his wife playing a piano duet part for an orchestra concert there. They now live in Rome, Georgia with their three wonderful children.
From Sewanee he went on to study at Southern Methodist University and played for a large Methodist church in Plano Texas. After a few years of Texas heat it was time to go back to Virginia and he worked at a church in Danville.
Desiring a change in musical style he moved to the Atlanta area where he now continues to work as an organist, pianist and teacher. Although classically trained, he enjoys working in a wide variety of styles. Steven plays for weddings, services and concerts. He has also developed an interest in music technology and all of the possibilities that now exist for creating music independently.
Steven enjoys traveling, speaking French and German, spending time with the kids, and he is a huge fan of Harney and Sons tea.
